Report: N Stream-2 to raise EU–Russian positive interconnection
MOSCOW, Aug 28 (PRIME) -- The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is a commercial project which will raise the positive energy interconnection between Russia and the E.U., Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Slovak newspaper Pravda released on Tuesday.
“The Nord Stream-2 is an exclusively commercial project whose implementation will diversify gas delivery routes to eliminate transit risks and in the end satisfy rising energy demand of Europe’s economies, strengthen the continent’s energy security… and raise the positive economic interconnection between Russia and the E.U.,” he said.
Lavrov also said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s negative statements on the project are targeted at promotion of U.S. interests in Europe.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom will implement the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
